We have some exciting developments in store for 2017, which will include greater opportunities for the public to get more involved, and some really big names.

Olympic gold medallist, Ryan Crouser of the USA, will be here to take on big Tom Walsh in the Mike Greer Homes Big Shot, along with our 2015 & 2016 winners, Ryan Whiting (USA) & Jacko Gill, and Aussie Olympian Damien Birkenhead. The Street Mile has been replaced by the Fast K – a 1-kilometre street race that will be open to the public, which is your chance to measure your best effort against world class middle distance talent.

Entrants in the Fast K events should report in to the Athlete Call Area marked on the Big Shot site map below, adjacent to the corporate marquee, between 12.30 and 1pm. You will collect your timing chip there, and make your own way to the start at the corner of Barbadoes St and Oxford Tce.

Kiwi Olympians Hamish Carson and Angie Petty headline the local hopes, up against five top Australians and a host of other NZ challengers. Petty holds the NZ 1000m record for women at 2min37, and the great Sir John Walker holds the men’s mark at 2min16 – how fast can YOU go?

2016 Event Structure

The Big Shot 2016 will again be held at the Retro Sports Facility on the corner of Durham and
Kilmore Streets – brought to you by the International Track & Field Trust, who previously
ran the International Track Meet at QEII Stadium in 2009-10 and Christ’s College in 2012-14.

This is a truly international event, celebrating New Zealand’s world class athletes competing
in their best events. The Shot Put will feature local hero and Commonwealth silver medallist
Tom Walsh, along with fellow Kiwi & World Championship finalist Jacko Gill, taking on the world.

New this year will be a Men’s and Women’s Street Mile, in the finest traditions of New York’s
Fifth Avenue and Auckland’s Queen Street. Olympic silver medallist Nick Willis and World
University Games champion Angie Petty will headline the NZ talent, and will also be joined
by a number of top international stars.

And as always, the future stars of the sport will be showcasing the next generation in the
children’s events in both the mile and shot put.

Tickets

General Admission Entry to the Events will be free, get there early to secure your spot.

Tickets for hosting opportunities at both the Charity Luncheon and The Big Shot will be
available in early January.
